to avoid looking cakey, just dont put on that much (if any) cover up.
i have learned that just putting it in places you need works alot better. just find the one colour that matches your skin.
Bare Minerals has great coverage without looking caked on. I also noticed I can use the same color when my face gets light or darker.
find the right color for your skin and apply foundation lightly if you wear it at all use a brush instead of the pad in the compact or use a powder instead but definately use a brush and blow off the excess. For your eyes use an eyeshadow brush not the little sponge thing that come in the packs and use a wider brush for blush. The powder brush is the biggest one blush is a little smaller. And use a brush designed for lipstick don't just rub the lipstick straight form the tube or better yet find a great lip gloss there lighter and more sheer but you have to apply it more often. For my eyes I use the almay set designed for the eye color for brown eyes is a lavender light brown and darker brown a purpleish eyeliner and a brown maskera I love it because it makes my eyes look great with out looking like im wearing a lot but I don't use all the colors unless I'm going out
