okay i have bad skin, no doubt about that. acne scars, blackheads, acne, and oily skin. i wear make up everyday, but it always looks really bad by the end of the day and sometimes my face looks fake. im on spring break right now, so if i stopped wearing make up for these two weeks, will my face start clearing up?
also, i wash my face with an acne wash when i wake up and when i go to sleep. If i stop wearing make up, will my face get better?
prob. many women/girls do not realize most makeups make your skin worse. if you are really worried about hiding blemishes get a mineral makeup free of talc. talc will cause breakouts. If i stop wearing make up, will my face get better?
Hi Ali,
Yes. You'll help your skin clear up if you don't use make up. Make up, hypoallergenic or otherwise, blocks pours. Essentially, you're holding in the bacteria that's causing the problems. I'd suggest more frequent face washing throughout the day. Enjoy your vacation.
Well, it would help alot if you backed up on the foundation and makeup. Makeup plugs up your pores and causes even more acne. Since you are on Spring Break lay off the makeup, drink lots of water, and use that acne wash every night and morning (don't skip!) even when your not wearing makeup. If you have to go out somewhere and you absolutley have to wear makeup, try BareMinerals. It's made with all natural chemicals, so it's good for your skin. Heck, their quote is ';So natural you can sleep in it';. I use it and I LOVE it, it makes me face look so natural.
Oh and make sure you lay out in the sun, that will help too.
you should really go to a dermatologist, i promise they will give you something that will help if not just a little! good luck
definitely. even the most well-known make-up brands can clog your pores, causing increased acne problems.
these suggestions should really help the process:
1. wash your face well and with a wash that is of good brand
2. get LOTS of sleep
3. dont be too stressed
4. eat healthy! really important! lots of fruits and veggies! no or minimal fast food.
5. steam face - boil water and pour in big bowl and if you have any herbal tea bags like green or chamomile then soak them in the water, then cover with towel. place your face under the towel so the herbal steam hits ur face. this will open your pores and help cleanse the dirt and oils.
6. this sounds gross but it works: whisk egg whites until bubbly and after you've given your face a wash, smear some of the egg whites all over your face and leave it on until it feels hard, then wash it off. this will seriously leave your skin feeling clean, whiter, and smoother.
7. baking soda; buy it! after you wash your face, get a wash bowl and pour luke-warm water in with a teaspoon of baking soda. SPLASH your face with the solution then after SPLASH your face with cold water. IMPORTANT: never be rough with your skin. i.e. when you dry your face with a towel, pat at your face, dont rub.
Okay, hope that helps! ^_^ good luck.
Hi Allison. Everyone's skin is different so I can only tell you what I know from my own personal experience. Some people are blessed with perfect skin, I am not. I used to wear makeup constantly as a way to try to mask the blemishes. I have tried almost every sort of foundation you can think of. I have now stopped wearing foundation make up (I still wear blush, powder, and eyemakeup, and something on my lips, occasionally minimal cover-up only when absolutely necessary) and my skin has gotten much better. I still wear foundation most times when I'm going ';out'; but to work and at home, I don't wear it at all.
Another thing I have tried and LOVE is Clinique's 3 Step program. I started using it back in October and noticed a huge/great improvement in the blemishes that occur (they go away more quickly and also don't happen as constantly as before) and the overall tone of my skin is much more balanced across my face. They have three different strengths, since you said you've got oily skin, they'd likely put you on level 3 which is for oily skin (although they might start you at a level two to get your skin used to the products and then bump you up to level three).
Do you use anything other than an acne wash? Believe it or not, acne washes often do more damage to your skin than more gentle non-acne defined washes due to the harsh chemicals that they contain. Things like Benzoil Peroxide and other chemicals advertised as acne fighters can dry out the skin causing negative effects and can actually cause the skin to overproduce sebum/oil resulting in an oily face. For a good daily regimen, you should be using a gentle and mild facewash followed by a toner/clarifying lotion and then moisturizer (I just started using Clinique's oil free moisturizer and it's amazing). You should do this twice a day (morning and night but you already know that part).
It took me years to learn this but moisturizing is a very important part of the puzzle. It is essential for healthy looking skin (even if you're quite young you should start doing this if you aren't already -- you'll be glad you did when you're in your late twenties and older). By not moisturizing, your skin can become too dry after washing (especially if you're using a harsh acne-wash) which causes the skin to produce sebum to try to fight the lubricate/fight the dryness and this leads to clogged pores and oily skin, neither of which are fun to deal with as you well know.
It should also be noted that foundations don't actually come off properly without the use of a makeup remover. There are some that are for the eyes but then there are others that are specifically for removing foundations (try clinique's ';Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm';). If foundation isn't properly removed, it will clog the pores and also will prevent your facial cleanser from actually reaching them rendering it pretty much useless.
My skin is now much better and almost clear except for the usual pms blemish here and there or something caused by stress. I have noticed that if I don't wash my face at night . . . my skin will breakout so I know that it's not my skin care line but my own fault for slacking off. ;)
I know I sound like a walking billboard for Clinique but all I can say is that it is fantastic. The price can scare you off at first but the products have lasted me over 5 months and if you purchase your products at certain times of the year at Sears, the Bay, or Holt Renfrew during ';Bonus Time';, you will get a free gift that has awesome little travel size products for you to try. So, the price might seem high at first but the products last longer than others (ie. the skin destroying Proactive products that ended up ruining my skin even more only lasted me a month and half and was more expensive) and you can get free stuff that allows you to test out other products of theirs that are also fabulous -- ie. the mascara and face powder.
Drinking lots of water (I hate water but I must admit, it does help) and eating a heathy balanced diet will also help too.
Good luck!
Only if you wear a lot of cover up. Not wearing cover up will. ANd if you drink lots and lots of water.
